Below are all the steps involved in becoming an American Heart Association BLS/CPR Instructor, Please read this in its entirety. Becoming a CPR Instructor is not meant to be a quick and easy process, there are several steps involved and all are set in place to gauge your commitment level and ability to follow instruction. Teaching lifesaving skills to the public is a large responsibility that is taken very seriously by the American Heart Association, myself and my fellow Instructors.
Step One – Having a Current CPR Card
This information is for an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) Instructor Course, there is no affiliation with the American Red Cross, ASHI or ESCI. You must have a current American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR card and a Heartsaver First Aid card before you register for this course. (I can assist you in getting these certifications). I cannot accept cards from any other entity, sorry.
Step Two – Registering for the Course
- Print off the application that I attached to this email, complete the top portion and sign the Instructor Commitment section.
- Send this application to kim@CPR4YourHeart.com so they may complete the TC Alignment section. If you already have a TC that you want to affiliate with please have them sign this section. I must have an authorized signature in the TC Alignment section, I can't go any further with registration until this has been signed.
- Have your most recent Healthcare Provider CPR Instructor fill out the Instructor Potential section (this part can be done by me if your previous instructor is not available).
- The cost of the course is $650.00, this includes the following:
TC Affiliation Fee (you must be affiliated with a TC to get cards)
Instructor Course Fee
BLS Essentials Online Course
BLS Course Materials (Healthcare BLS/CPR Course)
*Heartsaver Course Materials are available but will not be provided
Step Three – Preparing for the Course
You will be required to show your CPR skills and take a written exam on the day of the course, you should use the DVDs, Student Manuals and Instructor Manuals to prepare. You will also be required to complete the AHA BLS Essentials Course online prior to attending the in-person course. You will receive an access code and instructions on how to complete this online portion once payment is received. ($325 deposit and $325 day of class) or companies may request invoice.
Step Four – The Day of the Course
The class itself will be held at 618 Guilford College Road Greensboro, NC. You will learn the basics of putting together a class, you will be evaluated on your skills and you will learn what is expected of you from the American Heart Association and your local Training Center.
