BLS for Healthcare Providers Instructor-Led Training

Classroom Learning and 2015 update to Guidelines

The AHA’s new BLS Course has been updated to include science and education from the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Course Content

  • Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC
  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Multirescuer resuscitation
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant.

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Online Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages, including providing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device with oxygen, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Intended for licensed and non-licensed healthcare professionals.  The course completion card for the online course is identical to the card for the classroom course.

  1.  Manikin practice and skills testing (30 minutes)  This session normally begins 30-minutes prior to one of our classroom-based courses--May be scheduled now or you may call to schedule after completing the course.

  • YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED THE ONLINE BLS COURSE and need just the skills session
  • This is an American Heart Association course
  • You will receive your CPR card via email using the AHA eCard system the same day as your course

Heartsaver CPR/First Aid- This course is designed for Teachers, Coaches, Babysitters, Construction workers, and the general public. This classroom course includes essential information and training in the first-aid skills recommended by OSHA as well as CPR and AED certification training - all in a format that can be delivered in a single day. The course is modular to meet the needs of a specific workplace or group of employees. The core module comprises general principles, medical emergencies and injury emergencies.

Description: Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course that teaches students to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.
This course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care and foster parents in all 50 U.S. states.

Below are all the steps involved in becoming an American Heart Association BLS/CPR Instructor,  Please read this in its entirety.  Becoming a CPR Instructor is not meant to be a quick and easy process, there are several steps involved and all are set in place to gauge your commitment level and ability to follow instruction.  Teaching lifesaving skills to the public is a large responsibility that is taken very seriously by the American Heart Association, myself and my fellow Instructors.

Step One – Having a Current CPR Card

This information is for an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) Instructor Course, there is no affiliation with the American Red Cross, ASHI or ESCI.  You must have a current American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR card and a Heartsaver First Aid card before you register for this course. (I can assist you in getting these certifications).   I cannot accept cards from any other entity, sorry. 

Step Two – Registering for the Course

  • Print off the application that I attached to this email, complete the top portion and sign the Instructor Commitment section.
  • Send this application to so they may complete the TC Alignment section.  If you already have a TC that you want to affiliate with please have them sign this section. I must have an authorized signature in the TC Alignment section, I can't go any further with registration until this has been signed.  
  • Have your most recent Healthcare Provider CPR Instructor fill out the Instructor Potential section (this part can be done by me if your previous instructor is not available). 
  • The cost of the course is $650.00, this includes the following:

          TC Affiliation Fee (you must be affiliated with a TC to get cards)                 

         Instructor Course Fee 

          BLS Essentials Online Course 

          BLS Course Materials (Healthcare BLS/CPR Course)         

         *Heartsaver Course Materials are available but will not be provided 

Step Three – Preparing for the Course

You will be required to show your CPR skills and take a written exam on the day of the course, you should use the DVDs, Student Manuals and Instructor Manuals to prepare.  You will also be required to complete the AHA BLS Essentials Course online prior to attending the in-person course.  You will receive an access code and instructions on how to complete this online portion once payment is received.  ($325 deposit and $325 day of class) or companies may request invoice.

Step Four – The Day of the Course

The class itself will be held at 618 Guilford College Road Greensboro, NC.  You will learn the basics of putting together a class, you will be evaluated on your skills and you will learn what is expected of you from the American Heart Association and your local Training Center.  Please call 336-687-2657 with any questions
